Review: Smart Whisk

smart whisk review 7-in-1 Smart Whisk is OK
The Smart Whisk is advertised as a 7-in-1 kitchen utensil. It's a whisk, a spatula, a pasta fork, barbecue tongs, serving fork, slotted spoon and vegetable strainer. Use it to serve, strain, grip, whisk or secure.

And you know what? The Smart Whisk pretty much delivers, albeit within limits.

The Smart Whisk package includes two of the utensils. Each Smart Whisk has two arms attached to a spring-loaded plastic handle. The arms are made of metal wire the type of which you would see in a normal whisk, but probably a little stronger.

One of the arms can be rotated to face up or down; in one direction, it can be pressed into the other arm and is form-fitting to be used as a spatula; in the other direction, it is in opposition to the other arm to be used for gripping or whisking.

We liked the Smart Whisk. It's inexpensive, and for the money paid it served us well. There are those limitations, however.

The Smart Whisk is not sturdy enough to grip very heavy items. As a spatula, it can't be used with non-stick pans, nor, by nature of its whisk-like construction, would it work very well to turn something that is not a solid (i.e., scrambled eggs or pancakes that have cooked on just one side).

We thought it worked well as whisk (although not as well as a "normal" whisk). We liked how it can be used to strain pasta without having to use an actual strainer (grab the pasta straight from the pot, as you would with a pasta fork, and hold the pasta over the pot until the water has dripped away).

As a salad server the Smart Whisk does fine. For gripping and turning items on the grill, it worked well.

It's not a miracle utensil, and it can't handle every chore in your kitchen. It also can't be placed in the dishwasher. But overall, we liked the Smart Whisk.
