Review: Smart Spin Storage System

smart spin review It's Smart and It Spins ...
The Smart Spin Storage System is a good product for anyone whose kitchen includes a cabinet or draw strewn with mismatched and jumbled Tupperware-type containers. Because the Smart Spin offers 24 containers, plus 24 one-size-fits-all lids, that are organized onto one spinning platform for easy storage.

The Smart Spin is touted as a 49-piece storage system. That's a little misleading. There are actually 24 containers (the rest of the "49" figure cited is made up the lids plus the carousel base). Those containers are comprised of eight 24-ounce containers, plus eight each of 16 ounces and 8 ounces in size.

Each of the 24 lids will fit any of the three sizes - a nifty feature that makes mismatching lids and containers impossible.

When the Smart Spin is removed from the box, some assembly is required - you must attach a series of dividers to the carousel to form the framework of the finished product. It's a snap to do and took us about 1 minute's work.

The containers themselves don't feel very heavy-duty, but for the price paid, that's not what we were expecting. How the containers would hold up over a long period of time involving heavy use, washing and microwaving, we can't say (yet). But the containers certainly seem up to accomplishing their basic task.

Finger slots on the containers make removing the lids easy. The containers and lids are dishwasher safe in the top rack only; they can also be microwaved.

The flyer that comes with the Smart Spin says that while they are intended to be spillproof, it is recommended the containers be kept in an upright position to prevent seepage. We second that recommendation. We didn't find severe leakage with our Smart Spin containers, but seepage after a short time upside-down did occur.

The sizes of the Smart Spin containers work well for different types of foods and liquids. We found the 24-oz. model handled our biggest leftovers; however, that size will be too small for the needs of some consumers. Each Smart Spin container also has measuring units on its side to make measuring easier.

The Smart Spin containers and lids fit securely into the carousel, but are easy to stack and retrieve. The carousel itself spins, and can also be pulled out from its base for easier access. And the entire unit is contained within a 1-foot-square area, making it easy to fit into a cabinet or a corner of the pantry.

The Smart Spin seems like a pretty good product.
