But it gets worse. By the time we got to our second pancake, the top half of the Perfect Pancake would no longer stay open on its own. We raised it to a fully upright position - but as soon as we let go, it fell down onto the bottom half. Given that you're supposed to cook with the top half up, that's a problem.
So the actual performance of the Perfect Pancake was abysmal. Yet we have still more words of caution.
The Perfect Pancake instructions say that the unit should be hand-washed, not placed in the dishwasher. They say that the unit should never be used over high heat because there is a danger of warping and staining. A cooking utensil for the stovetop that can't take high heat? Doesn't exactly give one confidence in the quality of the materials used.
And the Perfect Pancake instructions include the strangest thing we've seen in such a booklet. When using the Perfect Pancake, the booklet says, "please keep pet birds out of the kitchen."
Say what? They explain: "Birds' respiratory systems are sensitive to many fumes, including the fumes from extremely overheated nonstick pans."
Hmmm, just what did they put into that nonstick surface? Especially given that it's not "nonstick" at all! We own a lot of nonstick cooking utensils, and none of them made us fear for the lives of pet birds!
Is there anything - anything at all - positive about the Perfect Pancake? Well, the batter dispenser that is included is OK.
