One Sweep Broom Not Revolutionary, But Might Be Worth a Try
Will the One Sweep broom sweep the nation ... or be swept under the rug? That is the question. The answer? Somewhere in the middle.
The One Sweep broom features a head made of rubber, with polymer (rubber) "bristles" rather than the usual plastic or straw bristles on normal brooms. The One Sweep comes in a small box and with minor assembly required. Assembly is very easy - simpy snapping the three sections of the broom handle into place, and screwing on the head.
The packaging for the One Sweep declares this product the "world's best broom" and claims "nothing sweeps better." It can be used, the directions say, on wood floors, tile floors or carpeted floors without fear of scratching, and for wet or dry areas, inside or out.
We've used our One Sweep broom on several areas: on stairs; on our kitchen floor; in our garage. The performance? Echoing what we said to start this article: middling.
Middle of the road. Not great, not bad. The One Sweep did an OK job of pulling up cat hair from our stairs, but not the type of job that makes you say, "Wow." Certainly not the type of job that the One Sweep does in its infomercial. It was ... OK. We still had to do some picking up of hair clumps with our hands.
On the kitchen floor, the One Sweep broom has done a fine job. But it hasn't produced results any better (or worse, for that matter) than a regular broom. It's more difficult to use with a dustpan, but still, we give the One Sweep a good grade for regular, tiled-floor use.
In the garage, we dropped some water to try the One Sweep's built-in squeegee, and squeegee it did. Of course, this is the One Sweep's one big advantage over a regular broom, its ability to function as a squeegee on wet spills. (Just note that the One Sweep can't absorb liquids - only move the liquid around. The seems like a much more useful quality outside than inside, where you'll probably want absorbency.)
Overall, we believe that the One Sweep broom, at its modest price (we got ours for under $10), is worth trying for anyone not happy with their current broom. We don't believe it's a revolutionary product, however, and for ourselves, the One Sweep won't make us toss out our old-fashioned broom.
