Review: Walk Away the Pounds

walk away the pounds A Pleasant - and Effective - Walk
By Charlotte Kuchinsky
for AsSeenOnTVCritic.com

I love to walk. I always have. However, like most people, I know that I don't do enough of it, especially when I'm dieting. That is partially due to my busy schedule and partly because the weather isn't always perfect for walking. Summers in Virginia can be both hot and humid, which isn't a good atmosphere for someone with allergies and asthma. Winters can be icy and treacherous or just plain freezing cold. Since I don't own a gym membership and there is no indoor track nearby, I'm out of luck for several months of the year. I was, therefore, delighted a few years back when I found Leslie Sansone's home walking series entitled "Walk Away the Pounds." With Sansone's tapes I can get the same great exercise benefits of walking right in the comfort of my own home, no matter the weather conditions outside.

Why Walk?
Most physicians agree that walking is the best exercise for just about everyone. It helps increase your energy, improves fitness levels, helps you lose weight, and improves the overall tone of your body. It also helps burn excess calories. Unlike many other exercise programs, walking is something that almost everyone can do, regardless the fitness level.

However, many people don't have access to the right kinds of places or environments that are safe and healthy for walking purposes. Leslie Sansone's in-home walking system solves that problem; allowing you to get adequate exercise right in your own home. Best of all, you can do it at your own pace.

Why Choose Sansone's Program?
Leslie Sansone is an authority on in-home walking programs. She has various VHS tapes and DVDs offered in both single and combination packages; with and without additional equipment. There is something that will work for just about anyone's fitness level and personal interest. She even has tapes that are designed for specific age groups; for specific areas of interest like Yoga or Pilates; as well as routines focusing on specific areas of the body. For advanced walkers, Sansone includes additional workout sessions with specific equipment.

The VHS tape version I purchased was her initial system for general energy, toning, and cardio workout. It includes three VHS tapes. The first one includes a one-mile easy walk. The second one includes a two-mile brisk walk. The third one includes a three mile advanced walk. To make certain that the user gets the most out of the walking experience, a stretchy band belt is included with the purchase. It can be used to help tone your arms as you walk.

What is the Cost Involved and Where Can I Purchase Sansone's Tapes?
The cost of Sansone's walking systems depend on whether you are purchasing VHS tapes or DVDs; the type of exercise program involved; the number of units (tapes or DVDs) in the kit; and whether or not it includes additional equipment.

The three-tape kit I purchased was $29.99. It also included the stretch band belt for arm toning purposes. The cheapest Sansone workout I could find was $8.95. The most expensive was $39.95. Obviously, I can't speak to the various programs that I haven't yet tried. However, the tapes that I already have were well worth the cost.

Sansone's tapes are often available where exercise programs are carried. These include places like video stores, bookstores, discount department stores, etc. Her tapes and DVDs are also available through numerous online retailers, including the official Web site.

Verdict
I love this walking program. It isn't too hard on my bad knees or too difficult for my aging body. Yet, I feel like I get a good workout each and every time. It may not work as quickly as other high-intensity exercise programs, but sometimes slow and steady wins the race.

I give this product a solid seven out of 10 stars.
